Figure Out Health Savings Accounts with People Like You: Dave

Over the last two weeks, you鈥檝e met Rebecca Dunlap and Eddie Medellin, two of the panelists who will participate in our live broadcast of National HSA Awareness Day, to be held Tuesday, Oct. 15, at 3 p.m. EST. This week, we鈥檙e excited to introduce you to the third panelist, Dave Jochnau, who along with Rebecca and Eddie, will be putting his personal HSA knowledge and experience to work to help more people figure out how health savings accounts (HSAs) work.
Dave and his wife have two children, both of whom are sophomores鈥攐ne in high school, the other in college. They enjoy attending sports games together and, as Texas residents, prefer to stay indoors during the three hottest months of the year.
Dave first enrolled in a health savings account when his employer started offering high-deductible health plans. As he asked questions and conducted his own research, Dave found out just how beneficial an HSA can be. For example, his employer matched employee-contributed funds up to a certain dollar amount. In addition to the financial perks of an HSA, Dave sees value in having a dedicated space to set aside money for both planned and unplanned medical expenses. They happen every year鈥攁nd Dave points out that 鈥測ou never know what could possibly happen鈥� with regards to an emergency. The more he learned, the clearer it became that an HSA was the right decision for Dave鈥檚 family.
With the help of an HSA, Dave is writing additional savings into his healthcare story鈥攁nd by participating in the HSA Awareness Day broadcast, he鈥檚 empowering others to do the same.
